Welcome to the Blue Dragon Taekwondo website!
We would like to respectfully dedicate this site to the memory of Grand Master Young SooDo, for his commitment, teaching excellence and great contributions to the art of Taekwondo. His legacy lives on.
This site is also dedicated to all those Taekwondo enthusiasts and other Martial Artists. Here you will find information about our Taekwondo classes, events and other interesting and cool facts about Taekwondo.
Special thanks to our instructor and head master, Sa Bum Nim Marshall Hale, who without, this site could not be possible. We promise to make you proud!
Why was this site created?
This site was created out of the need to be able to easily communicate information about our Taekwondo classes, schedules and events to our students and friends. Over the time, this humble announcement page grew into the site it is today. Among the information included in these pages, you will find specific materials related to our Taekwondo classes, and many audiovisual aids to facilitate the practical aspect of the Taekwondo as a sport.
Everybody has different points of view and beliefs to live by. Taekwondo’s origins and history, are surrounded by mysticism and tradition. We respectfully had chosen not to discuss the philosophical or religious aspects of this art, other than they exist as a fact of history.
Other thing that you might had noticed, especially if you have visited other sites, or read Taekwondo literature, is the fact that many of the words used in these pages and books, have several ways of spelling them. For example: The word used to describe the “battle yell” or “KEUP”, can be found spelled as “KEHUP”, “KIUP”,“KIAP”, etc.
There are many theories on why this happened. Some of these words have “evolved” through out generations, and some have been “assimilated” into the language of the Taekwondo practitioners with many variants, contributing to these changes. Taekwondo is one of the most practiced martial arts in the world, so “mixed in the pot”, are many languages, accents, countries, territories and traditions.
But no need to worry, we will not have writing Korean grammar test, we will not be doing Korean spelling bee, and we will not concentrate on the linguistics or Prosody of these words. We will try to keep them as close as we can to the original for practical purposes alone, so for those “purist” out there, you are welcome to substitute these words for whatever works for you.
We all practice Taekwondo for many different reasons. Some of us want to lose weight, others to manage stress, or to learn self defense, to achieve discipline, to gain flexibility, to have more energy, to boost confidence or a combination of these reasons and more.
Sa Bum Nim Marshall Hale once said : “Everyone is on his or hers own journey, when it comes to practicing Taekwondo. My job is just to show you the path for you to follow”.
Whatever your reasons, whatever you goals, we sincerely hope that this site will assist you on your journey, so you can become a better person, a great martial artist, and be able to face life with self confidence while showing respect for others.
Thank you for visiting with us, and KEUP!!!
