This page is dedicated with great honor and utmost respect, to Riley Carl Howell, son, brother, model student, accomplished athlete, friend, and fellow Blue Dragon. On Tuesday, April 30, 2019, Riley’s life was tragically cut short on the campus of UNC-Charlotte. He was only 21.
Riley attended the University of North Carolina in Charlotte, when a mass shooting erupted on the campus. Riley immediately sprang in to action, tackling the shooter, attempting to hold him down until help arrived. Unfortunately, during the altercation, Riley was injured and died shortly after. By distracting and slowing down the shooter, Riley allowed many of his peers to flee the scene, and find safe refuge. Many are now alive, thanks to Riley’s quick actions, and selfless sacrifice. You will be greatly missed, but never forgotten. A humble bow to you, Blue Dragon Brother!
